Last time I updated my livejournal was about going to Atlanta with a girl who was decidedly not the one for me. I made mistakes. I grew up. This post is about going to North Carolina with a girl who is decidedly the one for me. It just took some heartache to figure it all out. So yeah! Going to see the Avett Brothers in Asheville on new years eve. Best possible way to bring in this new decade of my life. I am 21. I am on track to be the photojournalist I have dreamed of being. Most of all, I am happy. Here is a video of the Avett Brothers that I am geeking out over, and yeah, both the banjo player and guitar/vocalist are playing the drums together.

I hate going to school.
I recently was promoted to team lead at toys r us. I manage the electronics department. This basically means I sell pokemon shit to kids and creepy adults.
My dad has a surgery coming up in a few days that might change all of my family members lives forever.
I enjoy my radio show.
I went to harvest of hope. It was a lot of fun.
I love my girlfriend.
I have a folder on my computer titled life that chronicles my fathers decline in health. It has 3,652 pictures in it. It is quite possibly one of the most ambitious things I have ever done.

My father has throat cancer. It was a rather large tumor and its really taken quite a bit out of him in the most recent months. He was diagnosed in november and it really has been a struggle for the entire family. He can't speak for now and quite possibly never again. I have been taking photos of him every day. I only have a few that I am willing to share at this point. I have the intention to eventually put them together in a portfolio of sorts. One or two of these are kind of graphic.

Had an accident on my bike on july third. Displaced my collar bone. Split open my head and bled everywhere. had a concussion with amnesia and have forgotten most of the past month. staples in my head and possible surgery with hospital stay this week. I love everyone who has been there for me. I cant express how thankful i am for you all. please everyone, wear your bike helmet and dont get messed up like this.

My brother stole my dream car. I have been wanting a type III squareback for two years now. He decided he wanted one the other day and my parents bought it for him. Huge bummer. But no sense in complaining! because he knows nothing about them and wants me to figure out all the restoration work on it. Plus, I get to drive it whenever he isn't.

It is done! Christmas On Mars is done and playing at bonnaroo. I am totally willing to spend hundreds of dollars on a ticket and then hundreds more on travel expenses to see this. I could also hang out with a bunch of corporate hippies and metallica fans!

I have been working on an art project that involves fake blood. its not anywhere near completion. I did some experiments with different blood spray that looked pretty cool though. I need input though.

this one is a lot like a major artery stab wound. just a gross splat with no real precision. Also, I added an almost wave of blood. Three separate squirts. As if the veins were still pumping out blood.

this one is meant to somewhat simulate projected spray on a flat and level surface. No dripping really. there is also passive blood stains. just splatters and slashing. Maybe what a filleting would look like on the floor?

This one matt helped out with quite a bit. Lots of passive stains. As well as arterial spray.

tomorrow I am going to experiment further. I need to make darker blood I think. this batch was a bit too red. Its really funny to be standing outside in the road spraying down huge blood stains with a hose while wearing an apron covered in blood. Neighbors like it!

I just wanted to thank you for all of the amazing inspiration you have given me in these past few days. I have always seen and loved your work, but for the first time I really started to soak it in. During the beginning of this process of immersion, I lost all faith in myself. I thought to myself that your pictures, your ability, your eye, these were all of the things that would be my ultimate goal in achieving. I felt really unoriginal after realizing that I had just been trying to emulate you, even if I hadn't really known it. After further introspection, I came to the realization that your work isn't necessarily something that can be emulated. It is, in itself, an emulation. An emulation of life in its most pure and instantaneous form. This is so utterly inspiring that I don't even know where to begin. So for this, I thank you.

So, i just heard the new Nine Inch Nails leak. I'm actually surprised at how good it is. its lyrics aren't as disappointing as they were on "With Teeth." so surprise. its good. There is a track on it called vessel. its absolutely awesome. most likely his best work yet. I would love to see him live. Too bad it would be like me and 14,000 middle schoolers wearing black nail polish screaming "i want to fuck you like an animal." either way though.

So ive been driving a lot. Keiko really likes to drink gas too. so much money going into gas. oh, and money going into my saltwater tank. Jeeeeeze its going to be pricey. Okay. new episode of the office tonight. pretty much the highlight of my last two weeks is going to be watching that. tomorrow i do believe im going to matts house. that should be a good time. oh, and i will be seeing the flaming lips in exactly one week.

I recently got back from Cocktails With Mimi. It was a lot of fun! everyone was great. disney did a wonderful job. good job everybody! tomorrow i am going to be finished with these remedial make up because i was a stupid freshman stoner classes. Two more assignments left. I then plan on finally taking my break and starting college the second semester. Im excited. Ricky and Reilly spent their entire spring break here. my parents just got back from dropping them back off at their house. it was fun. I took pictures. There are also a few basketball pictures from the game. I am really proud of one of them. except for the fact that the lady behind me happen to set off her flash at the same exact moment and it overexposed the shit out of it. I still like it though. okay. here they are. Oh, and chances are i want to hang out with you. so lets do that.

I was sitting in my car at a stoplight intersection listening to the radio. I was, I guess, lost in the moment, thinking how happy I was to be inside my nice warm car. It was cold and windy outside, and I thought, ''Life is good.''

Now this was a long light. As I waited, I noticed two people huddled together at the bus stop. To my eyes, they looked uncomfortable; they looked cold and they looked poor. Their coats looked like they came from a thrift store. They weren’t wearing stuff from The Gap. I knew it because I’d been there.

This couple seemed to be doing their best to keep warm. They were huddled together and I thought to myself, “Oh, those poor people in that punishing wind.”

But then I saw their faces. Yes, they were huddling, but they were also laughing. They looked to be sharing a good joke, and, suddenly, instead of pitying them, I envied them. I thought, “Huh, what’s so funny?” They didn’t seem to notice the wind. They weren’t worried about their clothes. They weren’t looking at my car thinking, “I wish I had that.”

You know how a single moment can feel like an hour? Well, in that moment, I realized I had assumed this couple needed my pity, but they didn’t. I assumed things were all bad for them, but they weren’t and I understood we all have the power to make moments of happiness happen.

Now maybe that’s easy for me to say. I feel lucky to have fans around the world, a house with a roof, and a wife who puts up with me. But I must say I felt this way even when I was working at Long John Silver’s. I worked there for 11 years as a fry cook. When you work at a place that long, you see teenagers coming in on their first dates; then they’re married; then they’re bringing in their kids. You witness whole sections of people’s lives.

In the beginning it seemed like a dead-end job. But at least I had a job. And frankly, it was easy. After 2 weeks, I knew all I needed to know, and it freed my mind. The job allowed me to dream about what my life could become. The first year I worked there, we got robbed. I lay on the floor; I thought I was going to die. I didn’t think I stood a chance. But everything turned out alright. A lot of people look at life as a series of miserable tasks but after that, I didn’t.

I believe this is something all of us can do: try to be happy within the context of the life we’re actually living. Happiness is not a situation to be longed for, or a convergence of lucky happenstance. Through the power of our own minds, we can help ourselves. This I believe.-wayne coyne.
